As you're overindulging on leftover Halloween candy and wondering what to do with all the leftover pumpkins, before you throw them into the garbage, here's a fun idea that's decorative and festive for fall. It requires minimal supplies but provides hours of relaxing and creative craft time.
The best part of repurposing pumpkins and turning them into succulent pumpkins is that the succulents can be removed from the pumpkin later and planted into the ground as a beautiful succulent bouquet.
SUPPLIES
- Pumpkins (any size will do)
- Moss (any color)
- Succulents of different colors, textures, and sizes from your local gardening center or yard (or neighbors, with permission of course :-)
- Dried flowers (optional)
- Glue gun
- Scissors
DIRECTIONS
- Spread all the items on the table or the floor and plug in your glue gun to warm it up.
- Grab a pumpkin and glue moss to the top. You want to be generous with the moss so that the succulents you place on top will have space for roots to grow.
- Select succulents, put hot glue onto the ends of stems, and push the stems into the moss. Don't worry, the hot glue won't damage the succulents and some items may need trimming depending on how tall you want them.
- Keep gluing succulents on until you are satisfied.
- Optional: Finish the look with dried flowers or other trimmings from the yard.
Tip: Start with a larger succulent then fill in the surrounding area and don't be afraid to go big and tall.
CARING FOR YOUR SUCCULENT PUMPKINS
- Sprinkle a little water by hand or use a spray bottle to water your succulents a couple of times per week.
- In a couple of months, when your pumpkin starts to look a little sad, cut off the top and plant your bouquet into the ground or another pot.
