Heart to Heart - Free Supportive Parenting Series

Focusing on Young Children & Families

Join UUMC for their 2nd annual Heart to Heart Series. This supportive parenting series will focus on young children and families. All courses are FREE and perfect for new parents, parents needing continuing education units for the Foster Care program, or any childcare provider. Each session is 2 hours and FREE childcare is provided!

September 12:
Parents learn about the problem of drowning: Why, where, how it happens. It presents four action steps to prevent drowning by using barrier protection, designating water watchers, learning CPR, and clearly communication child supervision.

September 26:
Deborah Fleshmann with I.U.S.D Early Childhood Learning Center presents "Building Blocks of Communication." Language serves as the foundation for all literacy development. Discover the building blocks to later school success and learn ways to enhance and support language development through everyday play. This class includes resources for parents to enhance language learning at home. This class will address kids 0-12.

October 10:
Jannell Jones with OC Safe From The Start OCDE presents "Prevention and Early Intervention" for children and youth. This initiative targets children 0-18 with an emphasis on 0-5.

October 24:
Orange County Fire Authority presents "Home Safety". In this class you will learn how to keep your home and family safe and how to prepare for emergencies. Debbie Korraman from the Children's Burn Foundation/Grossman Burn Center will also be present. Class will cover common burns, prevention and first aid.

November 7:
Linda Scott-Katz, P.N.P. from I.U.S.D. and the Early Childhood Learning Center presents "Do You Have a Picky Eater?" Eating should be fun, but sometimes it loses its appeal with youngsters. Instead of pulling your hair out, losing your mind or getting into an argument, why not come to a class and learn how to deal with your picky eater. We'll talk about taste, texture, creativity in the kitchen, and how to introduce new foods. Class will cover kids through young adulthood.

November 21:
Dana Collins, MA from I.U.S.D. and the Early Childhood Learning Center presents "Challenging Behaviors." Is your child's behavior interfering with their learning, development and success at play? Your child is communication with their behavior and there is always a reason. This class will provide you with strategies on how to manage and reduce challenging behavior and help you develop a behavior support plan.

December 5:
Danna Parga with Help Me Grow presents the importance of understanding when milestones occur in a young child's development. Six areas of development and the red flags in each area are reviewed so that caregivers are aware of when possible delays are present and what kind of support is needed for a child. Also included is information about connecting to resources needed to address concerns. 


Registration:
In partnership with the Foster and Kinship program at Saddleback College, continuing education units will be available for those that need it for the Foster Care program and registration is available through the college. All others can register directly with Joan Lundbohm, Director of Children's Ministries at UUMC Joan@uumcirvine.org
