One of the summer’s most anticipated family events, the Kids Adventure Games (Kids A.G.) presented by Toyota, is heading to Big Bear Lake, Cali., Sept. 3-4. Considered to be the nation’s premier adventure race for kids ages six to 14, the race will feature teams of two tackling a course with mountain biking, trekking, rope swings, mud pits, cargo nets, zip lines, water obstacles, a giant Slip ‘N Slide and more. This is the first summer the Kids A.G. will come together with Big Bear Lake and offer hundreds of kids the thrill of adventure racing where they’ll challenge themselves physically, emotionally and end the race feeling a huge sense of accomplishment.

Registration is underway at www.kidsadventuregames.com and early registration is encouraged following sellouts this and past summers in the K.A. Games eight-race series. As part of the action, racers will also have an opportunity to participate in skills clinics the Friday prior to racing to practice and perfect skills including teamwork, biking, climbing and more. Cost is $150 for a team of two until Aug. 27 and then $180 until the race fills. Skills clinics are optional and cost $55 per participant.

Whereas most races allow parents to help and coach their kids, Kids A.G. mandates the course as a parent-free zone, keeping them on the sidelines as cheerleaders. According to Kids A.G. Co-Founder, international adventure racer and Race Director Billy Mattison, parents remain astounded at what their kids can accomplish. "Adventure racing is a thrilling sport," said Mattison. "It combines physical and mental challenges, teamwork and good-natured competition - and just as importantly, it's a lot of fun. We're excited for our inaugural Big Bear race where we’ll watch the kids grow by challenging themselves throughout the weekend."

The Kids Adventure Games™ originated in Vail, Colo. seven years ago and now features eight races across the nation. The games in each city are tailored to the natural terrain of the area to maintain the authenticity and personality distinct to that location. It is the only race of its kind in the nation. It offers kids the thrill of adventure racing while enhancing teamwork skills, sportsmanship, and a healthy, active lifestyle.

The 2016 race schedule has included events at Snowshoe Mountain, W.V. in May; Utah Olympic Park in Park City, Utah and Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, Cali., in June; a Family Adventure Quest at Copper Mountain, Colo., in July; and at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, VT in July. Upcoming races will take place Aug. 10-14 in Vail, Colo.; Aug. 26-27 at Mammoth Mountain, Cali.; and at Big Bear Lake, Cali., on Sept. 3-4. Although a fairly young event, Kids A.G has experienced remarkable growth and support from multiple national sponsors. The Big Bear Lake Kids A.G. is presented by Toyota in partnership with Horizon Organic, CLIF Kid, Darn Tough and Slackers.
